A single mum of three will no longer be able to take two of her children to school after landing a drink-drive ban.
Police arrested Sally Chapman (38), of Bridge Road, Sutton Bridge, shortly after midnight on July 20 in Long Sutton’s Market Place after she had been drinking wine with friends.
Paul Wood, prosecuting, said police described Chapman as unsteady on her feet with her breath smelling of alcohol.
A test revealed 56 microgrammes of alcohol in breath – 21mcgs above the legal limit.
Solicitor Mike Alexander, mitigating, said the prosecution account was largely correct apart from the description of her being unsteady on her feet.
He said Chapman’s children go to three different schools – she takes the eldest to college more than 20 miles away, the youngest to a primary school in another village and the third goes to school by taxi.
“She won’t be able to afford to pay for taxis for the other two,” Mr Alexander told the court.
He said Chapman had three glasses of wine with friends between 8pm and 11pm before being stopped.
“It may well be that they were large glasses of wine,” he said. “She simply thought she would be okay and she had spread the drinks out. She regrets today what happened entirely.”
Chapman was banned from driving for 12 months, but can reduce that by three months if she attends a drink-drive rehabilitation course.
She was fined £100 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. She pleaded guilty to the charge.
