Volunteers behind a new foodbank opening in Holbeach new month are urging people to get involved and give help to crisis-hit individuals and families.
An appeal for food and cash donations has been launched ahead of Agape Care Foodbank Community Larder opening at Holbeach Reading Rooms in Church Street on Friday, September 6.
Extra volunteers are also needed for the foodbank which has been set up after just four months with the help of church leaders, councillors and the general public.
Tracey Carter said: “We’re looking for donations of food and plastic bags, as well as money to buy more food and cover the renting of the premises, from businesses and individuals.
“We also need shops and other businesses who would be willing to have donation bins on their premises so people can drop off food for us to collect.
“Finally, we need people happy to come down on a Friday between 11am and 2pm to just be one of the volunteers greeting people, making them feel welcome and building quite a nice atmosphere at the Community Larder.”
Food parcels will be given out to people from Holbeach and surrounding villages who have a voucher given to them by Citizens Advice Bureau, Jobcentre Plus, Age UK and other referral partners for the foodbank.
Administrator Jane Francis said: “There’s a social need within our community because people are struggling in the current economic climate, not just those on benefits but people on low wages and many families who have fallen into crisis.
“As a community, we have a responsibility to help people in such a position and the Community Larder is quite innovative.”
