MP John Hayes is battling to persuade county council bosses to meet elderly residents who fear they will lose wardens at their sheltered housing.

The South Holland and The Deepings MP has accepted a private meeting with the county council, but is determined leading county figures will meet him and residents at Lime Court in Spalding to listen to residents’ concerns.

The county council funds the warden service in South Holland but it is delivered by the district council, which is doing all it can to win a new contract.

Mr Hayes, district council leader Gary Porter and district portfolio holder Christine Lawton met residents from sheltered housing complexes across South Holland at Lime Court last week. Residents described wardens as their “lifeline” and said they don’t want to be left with a phone service instead.
