A drunken husband slapped and punched his wife as they walked home from a Christening party leaving her with a black eye, bruising and blood dripping from her nose.

The victim of the attack, Wioleta Kmiecik, later made a statement to police saying she no longer wished to pursue a complaint against her husband, Sebastian, because she felt he required help with his behaviour.

Solicitor Neil Sands, representing Sebastian Kmiecik, read part of the wife’s statement to Spalding magistrates in which she said: “He’s a great dad and I love him and I am hoping to have him back at home where he belongs.”

Kmiecik (31), of Park Gardens, Holbeach, pleaded guilty to assault by beating. Magistrates on Thursday adjourned sentence to September 5 for a probation report.

After hearing Mrs Kmiecik’s comments – and following the husband’s guilty plea – the court removed a bail condition that prevented him from contacting her.

Paul Wood, prosecuting, said the couple attended a Christening party in Marshlands Drive, Holbeach, on July 27.

Kmiecik had been drinking before getting there and “drank quite a lot when he was there”. He became aggressive towards his wife as they walked home along Battlefields Lane South.
