A teenager from Whaplode Drove is spending the summer holidays peddling more than 347 miles to help a two-year-old with cancer get the treatment she needs in America.

Callum Crosby (14) is using an exercise bicycle and rowing machine to cover the distance Anya Bentham will have to travel from her home in Chester to the Atlantic Ocean on the first part of her journey to America.

Mum Sarah said: “We found out about Anya through a friend.

“She has a form of children’s cancer called neuroblastoma and although she is receiving chemotherapy in the UK she needs special treatment abroad so her body can fight it if it returns.”

So far £209,000 of the £250,000 needed has been raised.

Callum is already contributing more than £600 through his JustGiving page but with a few more weeks of the holidays to go he is hoping to raise some more cash.

Challenging himself to two hours a day, he said: “I’m going to cycle from Chester, where Anya lives, to Holyhead (84.1 miles).

“Then I’m going to row across the Irish Sea from Holyhead to Monkstown (68.3 miles).

“Finally, I’m going to cycle from Monkstown to Belmullet (195.1 miles).

“I’m finishing at Belmullet as it’s one of the nearest land locations until The United States.

“Overall, from Chester to Belmullet is 347.5 miles.

“It’s tiring but I know it’s for a good cause.

“All the money I raise will make the difference of Anya getting to America for the treatment she needs to beat this cruel disease.”
