It was a tough job but the judges have decided on the winners of the 2013 Spalding in Bloom Best Front Garden competition.
Earlier this summer The Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian teamed up with the Spalding in Bloom committee to find the best looking front garden in the town – with George Slinger of Birchgrove Garden Centre, Pinchbeck, putting up £50, £25 and £10 vouchers for the three winners.
And earlier this month Mr Slinger and retired horticulturist Geoff Hoare – both members of the Spalding in Bloom committee – visited all the entrants to make their decision.
And a tough decision it was – so high was the quality of all the entries that as well as the three top prizes, Mr Slinger decided to reward all the entrants with a £5 voucher for their efforts.
Everyone also received a Highly Commended certificate.
But a decision was made and the winner of the £50 voucher and the winners trophy was Terry and Judy Wing, of Park Avenue.
They will also be invited to take part in the Frank Constable Best Front Garden Competition organised by East Midlands in Bloom committee in July 2014.
Also picking up their prizes at Birchgrove on Saturday were second placed Carl and Natalie Knight, of Livingstone Drive and third placed Michael Pratt of Chestnut Avenue.
Chairman of the Spalding in Bloom committee Angela Newton said: “We were very pleased with the response from the gardening public and we would like to thank the Lincolnshire Free Press for their fantastic support for this competition and for their help over many years given to the Bloom committee in their quest to improve Spalding’s appearance with flowers and plants.”
