A man rowed with a former friend in the street after his girlfriend claimed the ex friend had tried to have sex with her.

Jay Power (20), of Fishpond Lane, Holbeach, was working in London at the time his girlfriend alleged the unnamed friend had “tried to have sexual intercouse with her”.

Solicitor Mark Hudson, mitigating, said there was not much Power could do while in London but he saw the man in the street in Holbeach.

“He approaches him and is upset and he’s angry, there’s no doubt about that,” said Mr Hudson.

He said Power didn’t want to hit the man there and then but walking up to him in an aggressive manner amounted to a classic public order offence.

Mr Hudson said at one point both men picked up bits of concrete from nearby roadworks, but set them down again.

“He’s just very, very angry at his friend, his so-called friend, at what he had tried to do,” Mr Hudson said.

Power was fined £75 when he pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour in High Street on June 14.

Spalding magistrates on Thursday also ordered Power to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Power admitted the offence put him in breach of a suspended sentence order imposed by the crown court, but magistrates decided the crown court should deal with that.

Jim Clare, prosecuting, read a statement from a woman witness who was shocked and scared when she saw the two men arguing at 12.l30pm that day and said Power, the smaller one, “seemed to be the aggressor”.
