A DRIVER stopped because his car was suspected of being involved in an earlier accident was found to have an open can of beer in his footwell.

Grzegorz Rybka (29), of Station Road, Moulton, was also more than twice the drink-drive limit and without car insurance as officers stopped him to carry out checks in Station Approach, Spalding.

On Thursday, Rybka was banned from driving for 24 months and ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work by Spalding Magistrates’ Court.

Rebecca Ritson, prosecuting, said police spotted his blue Citroen Saxo in Winsover Road at about 11.35am on February 10.

She said: “It had earlier been reported as being in a road traffic accident.”

Miss Ritson said officers reported Rybka smelt of alcohol and he failed a roadside breath test.

In custody he gave a reading of 93 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millitlitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Speaking through a Polish interpreter, Rybka told the court: “I would like to apologise. I won’t do this again.

“I would like to warn everyone else not to drink and then drive.”

Rybka was also ordered to pay £85 towards costs.
