South Holland and The Deepings MP John Hayes will officially open the Sutton Bridge In Bloom community garden next month.
The bloom team are building the garden in Memorial Park, close to The Curlew Centre, but have already suffered a setback with a Latin-speaking lout heaping stones from a drainage ditch to spell out words like carpe diem (seize the day) in the bare earth.
The volunteers installed the drainage ditch to help car park users as the area is prone to minor flooding when it’s wet.
Now they hope they can complete the garden unhindered and that it will remain damage free so the public can enjoy it.
Following the damage, the bloom team’s treasurer, Teresa Hardy, said: “We feel very upset about it, actually.
“It’s just that someone has taken a lot of time to do what they have done and, of course, we have now got to clean it up.”
• Mr Hayes opens the garden at 11am on Saturday, October 12.
