A new drop-in health scheme for people in the agricultural industry has had enormous success in its first six months.

Lincolnshire Rural Support Network (LRSN) extended its drop-in service to Spalding Auction in May in recognition of the fact that farmers were more likely to seek advice in their workplace.

Vice-chairman David Creasey says that over 200 people have sought health checks from nurse Heather Dawes or advice on issues such as finance or emotional problems from case worker Lea Schofield in that time.

David said: “It’s a lot more than we had hoped and a lot more than we’d budgeted for.”

However David and Lea want to get across the message that the service is not just for people working in the vegetable industry who visit the auction as part of their job.

The Wednesday drop-in is open to anyone working in the wider rural community. On December 11 there will also be complimentary hot drinks and mince pies.

The LRSN helpline is 0845 1232306.
