Saying a fond farewell to Brian

AN OVERWHELMING send-off from staff, pupils and their parents at Ayscoughfee Hall School in Spalding almost made the headteacher think twice about leaving.

However, it was only a passing moment brought on by the warmth of the well-wishers who turned out to bid farewell to headteacher of 21 years Brian Chittick.

Brian (60), is going to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt to act as headteacher of a British school teaching the English curriculum to British, Italian and French pupils.

“It is very interesting and the biggest difference is going to be a cultural one,” admitted Brian, who has had to learn about some of those differences. He will also have to acclimatise to temperatures of 50c during the hottest time of year.

Brian’s wife Irene, a supply teacher at Spalding Parish Church Day School, will join him in the autumn.

Brian said: “Leaving Ayscoughfee is a huge decision after 21 years and I have to say the farewell assemblies were rather traumatic. When you get that kind of reception from staff, parents and children it is quite overwhelming and you question whether you have done the right thing, but the school needed a change.”

New headteacher Clare Ogden starts in September.
