A drink-driver was more than double the legal limit when he drove the wrong way along a one way street towards a police van.

Janis Kozurkins had been to his works Christmas party when he was stopped in his Audi A4 on Spalding’s Broad Street in the early hours of December 7.

Ruth Snowdin, prosecuting, said officers saw the Audi being driven towards them in the wrong direction.

Kozurkins failed a roadside breath test and a sample at the police station revealed 79 microgrammes of alcohol in breath – the legal limit is 35mcgs.

He was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £250 and must pay £85 costs and a £25 victim surcharge when he admitted the offence.

Magistrates are allowing Kozurkins (24), of Willow Walk, Spalding, to cut the ban by five months if he completes a rehabilitation course.

Presiding magistrate David Milner-Scudder told him the ban had been set at 20 months “because of the level of alcohol and the manner of your driving a very powerful car in the wrong direction”.

Solicitor Phillipa Chatterton, mitigating, said Kozurkins drove to his works Christmas party and planned to pick up his car the next day. But, after consuming alcohol, he “took the foolish decision to drive home”.
