Plans have been drawn up to keep Kirton library open after the county council announced it will axe static library services in the village.
Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) has announced controversial cuts to library services – with Kirton’s among those to face a cut.
The parish council vowed to do all it could to fight the move – but the axe fell in December when the county council voted to go ahead with the closure.
But the fight isn’t over, as parish councillors are now working on a project to keep it open.
Fifteen volunteers have also come forward to offer help in running it.
Parish council chairman Alan Lee said: “We are quite confident that we can keep a static library in the village.
“The people who use it will miss it a lot.
“It’s not just a place for them to pick up books, italso offers a chance to socialise.
“Plus they are more likely to visit other businesses in the village too while they are there.
“A library helps to keep a village like Kirton vibrant.”
Coun Lee said they are looking at two options.
The preferred option is to support private businessmen who have put forward a plan to keep the current building open.
The unnamed Kirton pair are in talks with the county council, with the possibility of receiving grant support
The second option is to use the youth centre in the High Street.
Coun Lee added: “People can rest assured that we are doing everything we can to keep a static library in the village.”
He offered thanks to county councillor Michael Brookes for supporting the project.
