Seventy families have selected Bourne Elsea Park Primary Academy as one of the top choices for their child to attend in September.

Applications for this year’s primary school starters closed yesterday but parents have already shown their support for the new school with 16 naming it as their first choice.

Builders from Geda Construction moved onto the site in October and completed the initial steel structure this week, putting them on track for opening in September.

The new £2.5m school is due to open with 30 reception children and will eventually accommodate 210 pupils. It will be run by Bourne Abbey Primary Academy.

Headteacher Cherry Edwards said: “We are pleased that parents and carers within the local community are feeling such confidence about applying for places for their children at the new school.

“Providing outstanding education provision is paramount and the new school building, which is moving forward apace, is the very visual first step of this process.”

The school and Lincolnshire County Council are working closely with people on Elsea Park to prepare for the opening.

Residents have been asked to take part in a competition to design a new logo for the school, with entry forms being delivered to every home on the estate. The community has also been invited to share its views on what colour the new school uniform should be.

Mrs Edwards said: “It is so exciting to be part of this great development for the community in Elsea Park.

“We really believe the school will become part of the heart of the community and are thrilled that members of that community are able to contribute ideas to various aspects of what their school will look like.”

The new school website is expected to go live this month with more public meetings planned for the spring.

In April the school will register with Ofsted for a pre-opening inspection and will make arrangements for transition days with its new pupils.
