Training room at fire station

Spalding firefighters will be able to tackle more life-like emergencies at the West Elloe Avenue Fire Station if a planning application gets consent.

Lincolnshire County Council wants to build a two-storey training room so firefighters can undergo “all scenario training”.

A county council spokesman said: “Currently the firefighters use the training tower at Spalding for ladders training and mock rescues.

“The new building can be used for everything from search and rescue to entering smoke-filled buildings. We want to ensure firefighters are trained to the highest level.”

The cost of the project has not been revealed as it will go out to tender if South Holland District Council grants planning permission.

Spalding firefighters entered a new era last November with the station being manned 24/7 by two crews of wholetime firefighters who work alongside retained staff who provided cover in the past.
