BREAKING NEWS: Gosberton vicar hurt in road rage attack

UPDATE, WEDNESDAY 12.14PM: Gosberton’s vicar is recovering after being attacked in a road rage incident.

The Rev Ian Walters was punched in the face more than once during the attack on the A152 on Tuesday evening.

Mr Walters was driving on the A152 at about 8.30pm when the incident happened.

He was found on the side of the road by an off-duty police officer, who was driving by shortly afterwards, and required treatment at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston for minor injuries.

It is being treated as a hate crime as Mr Walters was ‘in uniform’ and the offender made verbal reference to it at the time of the assault.

The suspect, a 64-year-old man from Gosberton, was arrested and taken to Boston custody suite. He was later released on a short bail for medical reasons and will return to Boston police station on Friday.

A spokesman for the Lincolnshire Diocese said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Walters and we wish him a very speedy recovery.”

WEDNESDAY 10am: A 64 year-old man from Gosberton has been arrested after assaulting on a vicar following an incident in Quadring.

The ‘road rage’ incident happened on the A152 at approx 8.30pm on Tuesday evening.

The local vicar was punched in the face more than once and required treatment at Pilgrim Hospital.

It is being treated as a hate crime as the vicar was ‘in uniform’ and the offender made verbal reference to it at the time of the assault.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of racially/religiously aggravated assault and taken to Boston custody. He was later released on a short bail for medical reasons and will return to Boston police station on Friday.
