‘Stop knocking the Gleed – we love it’

“We’ve had enough of people knocking our school.” Students at Sir John Gleed School in Spalding want the town to know it is battling back after being placed in special measures last year.

Headteacher Will Scott said a cloud was hanging over the whole academy last week when an incident involving a student and teacher overshadowed news the South Holland Post 16 Centre had achieved the second best vocational result in the county.

Mr Scott said: “We should have been celebrating but instead students were coming up and asking ‘who hit who sir?’”

It was a blow for the headteacher given the task of steering the school out of special measures since it was placed there last summer and his predecessor, Janet Daniels, left.

Mr Scott said: “I acknowlege there is still work to do. But every day there is something the students achieve that blows me away.

“We are getting there and when the Ofsted inspectors return we will be ready for them.”
