Developer sought for park plans

DEVELOPERS will be approached to see if they are interested in building new sheltered accommodation in the town centre as part of plans for a new park.

South Holland District Council leader Gary Porter revealed last week his idea to replace Spalding’s Victoria Street car park with a proper town park with formal gardens play equipment and benches for people to sit and eat their lunch.

He said he hoped the park, which would have a full-time park ranger and be open from dawn to dusk, would become self-sustaining using rental yields from sheltered housing which could be built at the edge of the park.

Most of the initial costs of the park would be met by a “significant” amount of money from Holland Market developers Corbo.

At a meeting on Wednesday he asked fellow councillors for their support in continuing to look at the feasibility of the idea.

He said: “No one kicked against the idea so we are going to do some more work on the viability and see if we can get any developers interested.”
