People in South Holland can bring art experiences to their communities with the help of a £2.6 million project.
Youngsters joined art workers from Transported at Springfields Outlet Shopping to launch On Your Doorstep, a project to transform so-called “grot spots” into community works of art.
The community-focused arts programme, launched last May, aims to encourage people in South Holland to engage in the arts by offering a series of workshops in libraries ranging from animation to mask making.
On Your Doorsep, Transported’s latest project, gives people the opportunity to have their say on making a difference to their community by nominating public spaces to be improved.
After doing so, people are then invited to visit examples of arts activities across the country in order to gain inspiration for their project.
Examples range from the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and light installations to mosaics, anything with artist qualities that will improve public spaces in order to benefit the community.
Arts Council England and the Creative People and Places programme, both funders Transported, have found that involvement in the arts in South Holland is significantly below the national average.
Five pilot schemes are to take place as part of On Your Doorstep and each scheme will be given a budget of £5,000 for people to use in improving public spaces where they live.
