SPALDING’S Red Lion Quarter and The Deepings School Business Centre are two of ten Lincolnshire projects in the running for a RICS Award.
Representing a spectrum of organisations and projects worldwide, 477 entrants were received nationally for this year’s RICS Awards which consist of four categories: Building Conservation, Regeneration, Design and Innovation and Community Benefit.
Building projects which enter the awards vary from small, innovative schemes which might have benefited from the vision and persistence of one person, to multi-million pound budget, globally recognised developments.
The ten Lincolnshire projects will compete in a regional heat – the RICS East Midlands Awards – and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner at The Belfry Hotel in Nottingham tonight.
Winners from the regional heat will then form the shortlist for the national grand final awards in London in October.
The Deepings School Business Centre has been entered into the community benefit category for its new school entrance way, including reception, flexible teaching space, and conference facilities, while the Red Lion Quarter is in the regeneration category for turning a derelict brownfield site into a dynamic mixed use area.
Stephen Anelay, lead judge for the RICS East Midlands Awards, said: “The awards recognise exceptional contribution to conservation and enhancement of our built and natural environment. With a record number of national entries, the judges were faced with assessing the most hotly contested competition ever.”
