A MAN must do 80 hours’ unpaid work for punching a double-dating house guest and attacking his own wife.

Neil Amess (28), of Edinburgh Drive, Spalding, was at his family home in Pinchbeck on May 5 when he became upset with two-timing Ashley Sheedy.

Spalding magistrates were told that Amess and his wife, Kimberley, had a get together with friends.

Mr Sheedy was there with one girl, but another girl he was also seeing turned up.

Amess sided with one of the girls, confronted Mr Sheedy and punched him in the face.

Mrs Amess told police her husband was very drunk at the time.

Things calmed down for a while, but then Amess was seen punching the fridge.

Mrs Amess grabbed his left arm and tried to get him to stop. He was the most aggressive she had ever seen him.

Amess dragged her to the lounge, where she stumbled onto the sofa, and the next thing she knew she was in a headlock.

Amess pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to assaulting Mr Sheedy and Mrs Amess.

At Thursday’s resumed hearing, he was given a community order with unpaid work. He must also pay £125 compensation to Mr Sheedy and £85 court costs.

The court made no order for compensation to Mrs Amess after hearing the couple are resuming their relationship.

Solicitor Mike Alexander, mitigating, told the court: “He says ‘I know my behaviour was wrong, I know it should not have happened’. He accepts in the cold light of day that his emotions got the better of him.”

Mr Alexander said the incident was sparked by a combination of how much Amess had to drink and his emotions in relation to Mr Sheedy’s infidelity.

He has stopped drinking and voluntarily sought help from Addaction.

Mrs Amess suffered minor bruising to her arms and Mr Sheedy had facial bruising.
