SIXTY former Lincolnshire Police civilian staff face the axe from new employers G4S.

Staff at Spalding Police Station were among 580 employees transferred by Lincolnshire Police Authority to the private company in April.

G4S is the world’s largest private security firm and this week described the planned job losses as “modest”.

The £200million, ten-year deal to run some Lincolnshire Police services was the first of its kind and G4S claim to have delivered 14 per cent savings since it began work.

A spokesman said: “A modest number of redundancies from the 580 staff who tranferred over to G4S was always planned as part of the restructuring process,”

Although 60 current roles are under threat, G4S is creating 20 new posts.

Consultation has started with unions and staff and that is likely to end in July.

Public service union Unison has said it’s not yet clear whether the 20 new roles envisaged can be filled by people currently facing job losses.

l Those who transferred to G4S represented two-thirds of the total civilian staff employed by Lincolnsire Police.
