PINCHBECK East Primary School joined an elite group when it achieved the top rating in its latest Ofsted inspection.

The school was rated as outstanding, the best category there is. It is the only primary school in South Holland and South Kesteven to achieve that status, according to the latest data available from the Ofsted website.

Currently, three of the district’s secondary schools have achieved the top rating – Spalding High School and Grammar School and The Deepings School. Gosberton House special school also achieved the top rating following its latest inspection.

The majority of primary schools in the district are rated as ‘satisfactory’ and a slightly smaller percentage are ‘good’ – schools are marked from one to four, with one considered ‘outstanding’, two ‘good’, three ‘satisfactory’ and four ‘inadequate’.

When it was last inspected in 2009, Pinchbeck East was rated as ‘satisfactory’ improving on its performance of three years earlier, when it was considered ‘inadequate’. Headteacher Tom Verity explained the meteoric rise in results was due to “high quality teaching, leadership and excellent attitudes to learning by the pupils”.

Quadring Cowley and Brown’s Primary School also achieved significantly improved results at its last inspection, moving from ‘inadequate’ to achieving a ‘good’ rating.

Nationally, just seven per cent of primary schools inspected between January and March 2012 were rated outstanding, 48 per cent were good, 32 per cent satisfactory and 13 per cent inadequate.
