PEOPLE came out of their homes to see what all the fuss was about when police stopped and searched a man walking alone in the early hours of the morning.
Sam Woodman (19) “kicked off” – shouting and swearing – at 3am on July 1 in Stockwell Gate, Whaplode.
Rebecca Ritson, prosecuting, told Spalding magistrates that Woodman was stopped because of the time of night.
Woodman was repeatedly warned about his actions but continued to shout.
Miss Ritson said: “Because of his shouting and swearing, people came out of nearby houses to see what the fuss was about.”
Woodman told the court he was of no fixed address but when asked where he slept the previous night he gave a house number in Stockwell Gate.
But Miss Ritson read a letter from the disabled occupier of the house saying he is concerned about Woodman “using that address” and Woodman doesn’t live there.
Woodman, who was unrepresented, told magistrates: “I am getting harassed constantly by these coppers. I get stopped every day. I just kicked off because I was stopped.”
He was conditionally discharged for a year after he pleaded guilty to using threatening words and behaviour. There was no order for costs.
Presiding magistrate Robert Chapman told Woodman to focus on finding a home and work.
Mr Chapman said: “Whether or not you think the police are harassing you, you need to keep quiet and get on with life.”
