Roadwork disruption multiplies

TRAFFIC disruption in Spalding entered a new phase as summer holiday roadworks started this week.

Traffic in both High Street and Churchgate leading to their junction at the High Bridge traffic lights will be down to one lane only for six weeks while 250m of gas main is replaced.

A spokesman for the National Grid, which started carrying out the work on Monday, said the aim is to finish it before children return to school in September.

He also pointed out that by inserting a new plastic pipe inside the old iron main, only small sections of the road needed to be dug up because this new method means there’s no need to rip out the old pipe.

l Closure of the B1165 from Weston Hills to the A16 Fulney roundabout at Spalding has caused traffic to be diverted for three days until tomorrow.

The road was closed on Tuesday for resurfacing to be carried out at Low Road/Rangell Gate.

l Major hold-ups continue to bring disruption to motorists throughout the town as drivers are finding alternative routes to avoid the continuing road improvement works on the Pinchbeck Road/West Elloe Avenue junction.

These works, which prevent drivers from turning right into Pinchbeck Road, are not expected to end before mid-September.
