Pinchbeck: steps being taken to tackle vandals

PARISH councillors are taking steps to stamp out anti-social behaviour on a Pinchbeck playing field after residents’ complaints.

New no dog walking signs and a padlock for the entrance gate of Rotten Row Playing Field are to be fitted after claims that youths were causing a nuisance late at night.

Councillors also plan to ask residents about updating play equipment and installing CCTV to act as a further deterrent.

The plans come after a council meeting on Monday when one resident complained of youths “screaming and shouting” late at night, as well as throwing fire extinguishers and burning aerosol cans.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said: “The problem has been going on for a couple of months where groups of young people are screaming, shouting and using foul language late at night.

“Me and my husband were sitting in our garden one night and we heard this horrendous noise which turned out to be young people throwing fire extinguishers around.

“Another time we heard this loud bang and found out that they were burning aerosol cans.

“I didn’t take a lot of notice at first but when you can’t put your son to bed or you’re being woken up at night, then you have to ring the police.

“It’s a children’s play park, so why should these youths be there and why should we have to put up with it?”

Parish council chairman Andrew Bowser said: “There have been problems on the playing field but they haven’t been going on for an awfully long time.

“However, we want to clamp down on antisocial behaviour there by putting up a sign reminding people that they can’t walk dogs or play games on the field after dark.

“We also want to fit a new chain and lock to the entrance gate to stop people bringing vehicles onto the playing field.

“In the future, we will discuss installing CCTV and upgrading the play equipment because we’re aware that it’s dilapidated and we want to do something about it.”
