Clawing their way to success

TRAINING in beauty therapy for hands, feet and nails as well as the chance to get your hair and nails done under the same roof are offered by a new business in Spalding.

Nail technician Jo Dawson, who’s been operating from home for five years, has set up Kittens Got Claws above Revills jewellers in Market Place, where she’s offering courses in gel and acrylic nails, manicure and pedicure as well as her own skill in the field.

She has teamed up with hair stylist Hayley Brooke, who’s been a mobile hairdresser since leaving Peterborough Regional College with an NVQ Level Two qualification until now.

Jo, who dedicates Mondays to training activity, leaving her free for her manicure and nails clients from Tuesday to Saturday, nine to five, said: “We’re very excited about Kittens Got Claws, having just set up with our own base in the middle of town.

“Hayley will be concentrating for now on haircuts and hair-ups until we have more space, and I’m dividing my time between practising as a nail technician and leading courses.

“It’s brilliant - I’ve just heard that my courses are now registered with the Department of Work and Pensions.

“That means that Jobcentre Plus will send me people who may have been long-term unemployed or who want a change of career for training which they may be entitled to get free of charge.

“Everything I teach a course on, I offer customers who come in.”

Courses include: Foundation Young Nails Acrylic and Gel, four days spread over 20 weeks; Lomasi Manicure and Pedicure one day courses; Conversion courses from gel to acrylic or vice versa, or from one product range to another; e-filing; Gellin It manicure and nail polish; spray-tan training.

l Kittens Got Claws has an open day on September 22 from 10am-4pm when there will be nail and hair demonstrations.

* We would like to apologise for an error in Thursday’s Spalding Guardian, which said the busines was above Revills shoe shop in Francis Street. It is, as stated in this article, above Revills jewellers shop in Market Place.
