A RESCUED German shepherd dog involved in two attacks has been spared the death sentence by a judge at Lincoln Crown Court.
Four-year-old Jason, owned by Gedney Drove End woman Sarah Lake, went for a King Charles Cavalier puppy.
Jonathan Straw, prosecuting, said Jason was barking at the gate as the puppy was passing his home and then leaped the gate.
The German shepherd attacked the dog and bit its owner when she tried to rescue her pet. The puppy needed treatment at a vets.
Three months later Jason lunged at a man and bit his trousers but did not cause any injuries.
Lake (55), of Main Road, admitted being the owner of a dog which caused injury while dangerously out of control in a public place on April 2, 2011. She asked for a further offence to be taken into consideration involving no injury on June 25 this year.
Lake was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
Jason, who is now living in Surrey, was ordered to be muzzled when out in public.
Judge Sean Morris ordered that the dog should not be returned to Lake’s “care or control”.
Animal behaviour expert Dr Roger Mugford, who has been caring for Jason in recent weeks, said the dog appeared to have formed an intense attachment to Lake who had previously rescued it.
Dr Mugford said “Jason is capable of being rehabilitated. He’s a good specimen of that breed.
