Calls for a proper survey to be done

SPALDING Town Forum is still pushing for a proper survey before there is any move to close Swan Street’s junction with Station Approach.

Some drivers reported quicker journey to work times when the junction closed for roadworks, but others wanted to keep it open.

The town forum earlier this year asked councillors Graham Dark and Howard Johnson to press the county council to keep its promise and do an official survey.

At Wednesday’s forum meeting, Coun Roger Gambba-Jones said: “We were asking them to do the survey, the official survey that they promised to do when the initial one gave them ambiguous results.”

Forum chairman Coun George Aley said a bridge over the Winsover Road level crossing would be the ultimate solution once the track is busier with through-trains.

Coun Gambba-Jones said he doesn’t want proposed developments on Holland Park to drive the solution.

He said: “They (the county council) need to pull their finger out and get up to date information so they can actually inform the debate when it (Holland Park) does become a proper planning application.”
