A SPALDING man has warned computer users to be on their guard against a scam he believes is operating in the area.
Paul Woods, of Thames Road, received two phone calls on Tuesday, just after 5pm, from what appeared to be a foreign call centre telling him his computer was downloading malicious software and asking him to switch it on so the caller could gain access to the computer and solve the problem.
Mr Woods said: “I told them ‘no way’ and put the phone down but I would hate to think of anyone else falling into this trap.
“I think they are probably after people’s identities and bank details.”
Police said people should assume unsolicited calls are not genuine and terminate it immediately..
