Council has ‘no pride’ in town

HOLBEACH Parish Council members have no pride in the town, according to an angry resident.

Carol Rudkin made the claim at a council meeting on Monday in Holbeach St Marks where she said the council needed to do more to improve the town’s appearance.

Mrs Rudkin believed that Holbeach’s four “jewels in the crown,” Stukeley Gardens, Carter’s Park, All Saints’ Church yard and Holbeach Cemetery, were all in an untidy condition and needed tidying up.

She said: “For the last eight weeks, I’ve been around Holbeach and people have been asking me ‘does the parish council have any pride in Holbeach?’

“As far as they’re concerned, it hasn’t because the town’s four jewels in the crown aren’t kept up to the pristine standard they should be.

“I tell people to speak to the parish council but they say ‘what’s the point?’ so I think councillors need to find out what people are thinking.”

Parish council chairman Peter Savory said: “Nobody has written or said anything to us about the state of Holbeach, with the exception of Carol Rudkin.

“But if people do think there is a problem, there are vacancies on the parish council and we would welcome them with open arms.”
