THE euphoria created by the success of the GB Team in the Olympics this summer continues in the examination success of students at Spalding Grammar School.

That was the analogy made by headteacher Nigel Ryan, delighted with the achievement of his A-Level students, who had performed better than last year, he said.

Mr Ryan had an explanation for the students’ fortunes. He said: “The determination and hard work of the students, backed up by the dedication of the staff and support of their families, has been justly rewarded with a range of outstanding A-Level results.

“With plenty of ‘medal’ winners, our students are now in a strong position to go on and make their mark in the wider world. We wish them all the very best as they set out on the challenge to win even more ‘gold medals’.”

Top position on the podium was taken by Peter Sibley, of Long Sutton, with A*s in Latin and maths and As in economics and German, who will study law at Cambridge.

However, many pupils deserved a place up there with Peter, including Ciaran Constable, of Spalding, who is off to Cambridge to study law with his A* in law and As in English literature, government and politics and history.

While Ciaran was happy with his results, Tak Ho, also of Spalding, was expressing slight disappointment at his B grade in physics, although that, together with his As in engineering diploma and maths, was enough to get him into Loughborough and a mechanical engineering course.

Lucy Marsh, of Pinchbeck, was amazed by her “better than hoped for” results of A*s in law and Spanish and straight A in history, and is off to Sussex to study law with Spanish

Joe Maylor, of Barnack, was also pleasantly surprised with his A*s in economics, further maths and maths. Next step for Joe is a masters course in maths at Warwick.

All the students were taking a pragmatic approach to higher tuition fees, including Rav Sangha, of Long Sutton, who is off to UCL with his A* in maths and As in biology and economics, and Harley Fuller, of Gedney Dyke, who will study medicine at Durham, having gained straight As in biology, chemistry and physics.

Warwick is also the destination of Sam Meade, of Crowland, who will study a masters in maths having achieved A*s in further maths and maths and an A in physics, while Aadil Aziz, of Holbeach, will study economics at the LSE, having achieved an A* in economics, and As in maths and business studies.
