RESIDENTS spoke of their relief at the end of the meeting when the district council refused consent for the towering turbines.

A report to the planning committee said it would take at least ten years before a 100 metre long, hawthorn screening hedge grew to a height sufficient to mitigate the effects on the nearest home, The Birches.

But FenRats members Michelle and Michael Coleman say many more properties are affected.

Mrs Coleman said: “We have been fighting this for over two-and-a-half years with the constant stress, doubt and worry hanging over us all.

“We now have to face a public inquiry as the wind developer can automatically appeal.”

The couple live at the grade II listed Guanock House, the oldest building in the in the area, and its gardens are of national importance, having been restored by Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner Arne Maynard.
