BOURNE residents are taking a stand against new plans for government snooping.

The residents, who are members of 38 Degrees – a million-strong people-powered campaigning community who scored a big victory last year against government plans to sell off English forests – presented a petition of nearly 140,000 signatures to Nick Boles, MP for Grantham, Stamford and Bourne.

The hand over took place at the Conservative office in North Street, Bourne.

Michael Anderson, who organised the meeting, said: “The Government wants new powers to invade our privacy, every single day.

“It wants to store records on who we call, text and email, and which websites we visit – without any kind of warrant or reason.

“Our civil liberties have taken a battering in recent years from politicians of all backgrounds.

“Now it’s time to for us to make a stand.”
