NEW-STYLE parking wardens will start work across South Holland just in time to catch illegally-parked Christmas shoppers.

Lincolnshire County Council will be taking over parking enforcement powers from Monday, December 3 in a move which it is hoped will reduce congestion and inconsiderate parking, as well as supporting local businesses.

Exceutive member for Highways and Transportation Coun William Webb said: “Taking on these new parking enforcement powers means we can do more to keep people moving safely on the roads.

“We are delighted at the encouraging comments people have been making and hope this move will make a real difference to their journeys and mean they can visit local shops with ease.”

The parking enforcement contract was awarded in June to APCOA Parking (UK) Ltd, following a tendering process.

One week before the powers start being used, motorists who are breaching restrictions will receive a warning notice as a reminder.

Coun Webb added: “These parking restrictions will be enforced more regularly and we’re doing all we can to help people get used to this change and avoid getting penalised.”
