School looking for town sites

Leaders of a school federation planning to open a Spanish-English bilingual primary school were in Spalding on Thursday looking for potential sites.

The Phoenix Federation, which embraces primary schools in Gosberton, Boston and Fishtoft, recently unveiled its plans to open a new school in Spalding in September 2014.

An open evening for parents who might send their children to the school will be held at The South Holland Centre from noon to 7pm on Tuesday, November 6.

The Phoenix Federation says evidence shows children who have a bilingual education do far better in all areas of their school life compared to those who simply learn one language – and they also have better job opportunities.

Bridget Macpherson, the federation’s vice principal (partnerships), said: “Word of our proposed school is certainly beginning to spread out to the public, understandably, as the bilingual element of our application is a very exciting prospect for the children.

“I will be visiting a number of pre-school settings over the next few weeks to speak to potential managers about the potential of future partnership working, but also to provide parents of nursery-age children the opportunity to have an alternative choice of primary education.”

The federation tweets updates on its plans and has received interest from parents in Spalding and outside areas.
