Petition calls for ‘dangerous’ road to be made safer

A hit-and-run accident has prompted neighbours to start a petition calling for something to be done on a busy road before someone is killed.

Mum Tracé Beech suffered a fractured right arm, broken nose, leg injury and cuts to the face after she was knocked off her feet when a car hit her in Thorney Road, Crowland, on Bonfire Night.

Residents have now added their names to a petition which will be passed to South Holland and the Deepings MP John Hayes and new Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Hardwick, among others, asking for their help to address safety concerns, including lorries “whizzing” along the road, inadequate lighting and a “dangerous” pavement.

One of the organisers, 80-year-old Edna Staniforth said: “I have lived here all my life and friends of all ages agree we take our lives in our hands.

“Heavy lorries blatantly ignore the weight restriction, probably to save time, but they risk our lives and limbs.

“I realise people have to work for a living but we have to walk to get into the centre of town for post office, banking and general shopping, as well as going to the health centre and the library, schools and nurseries, and there is no safe place to cross.

“This has caused us great stress and the situation is worsening rapidly, with more traffic ignoring the rules which are in place for our safety.

“Can something please be done about this now, not once we have had a fatality.”
