A Holbeach parish councillor wants county highways chiefs to end a 40-year wait for a new footpath on land used as a short cut by residents.
At a meeting on Monday, Councillor Graham Rudkin said the land in Stukeley Hall Drive was used by parents and children walking to school and town centre shoppers.
He added: “It’s probably one of the most used footpaths in Holbeach but when it rains, it’s aboslutely disgusting.
“Various people have told me that this has been going on since 1968 and I feel it’s an issue that needs to be sorted out.”
Sue Cooper, Lincolnshire County Council’s senior highways officer, said: “All requests for new footpaths on public highway land must meet our assessment criteria.”
