A MOTORCYCLIST left with severe injuries following a crash with a car has launched a legal battle for compensation of more than £300,000.

Melvyn Bottom is demanding damages from motorist David Borrett after the collision which left him with head, wrist, neck and back injuries.

Mr Borrett’s insurers Direct Line admitted liability for the accident in June 2009, according to a High Court writ. However, the two sides are thought unable to agree how much compensation Mr Bottom should receive.

Mr Bottom, of Tasman Close, Spalding, was riding his Honda Goldwing machine along the A605 in Peterborough on February 20, 2009, when the crash happened.

The writ claims Mr Borrett, of Warmington, near Peterborough, drove out of a side road when it was unsafe and the two vehicles collided.

Mr Bottom says he also suffered significant psychological problems as a result of the accident.

The writ was issued by solicitors Minster Law.
