A man damaged two cars and smashed both windscreens with a golf club after his neighbours asked him to turn down his music.

Sam Curry (24), of Sluice Road, Saracens Head, was offered the chance to have restorative justice – paying the repair bill of £3,147.58 – but chose to go to court and get a criminal conviction because he felt the cars could be repaired for less, Spalding magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Allison Cunningham said next door neighbours Michael and Alison Rolfe went round to Curry’s home to ask him to turn his music down.

Mrs Cunningham said: “He is described by both witnesses as being drunk and very abusive and, to put it politely, he didn’t react very well to being asked to lower the volume.”

The next thing the Rolfes heard was their car alarms going off and loud banging.

Both windscreens had been smashed and there were dents in the bodywork of the cars.

The incident happened at about 12.30am on Saturday, October 13.

When police attended, Curry said: “Off to the police station we go, then. Sorry, but she antagonises me.”

Mrs Cunningham said Curry admitted to police that he used a golf club to damage the cars.

She said Curry was offered restorative justice, but said he could get the work done on the cars by a friend for a lot less than the amount quoted.

Curry has no previous convictions.

He pleaded guilty to criminal damage and on Thursday sentence was adjourned to January 8 for a report.

Before Curry returns to court, the prosecution will check the repair quotes and see if insurers have paid the bill.

Solicitor David Lee, mitigating, said: “I would ask you to take this as spontaneous violence against the vehicles in question. There was certainly no plan or anything like that.”

Mr Lee said Curry was questioning whether the repair estimates were reasonable.
