Design your own float

There are only two weeks left for youngsters to design their own float to feature in the final Spalding Flower Parade, to be held in May 2013.

Entries have been slow coming in and organisers are hoping that more schools may get involved to boost competition.

This is the second year running the Spalding Guardian has teamed up with parade organisers Kenyon Communications to pick a design for the People’s Float.

Individuals and schools are welcome to take part, with the only stipulation being you must be aged 12 and under.

The theme for 2013 is ‘Let’s Celebrate’ and that is exactly what we would like you to do in your artwork.

Think of a fabulous event to celebrate and get to work with your crayons, pencils or paints to draw your exciting float design.

Let your imagination run away with you and you could win the opportunity to work with designer Debbie Lishman to come up with your very own float design.

The winner and five runners up will also be able to play an integral part in the parade and take their position on the finished float on May 4.

Spalding Guardian editor Jeremy Ransome said yesterday: “Last year we had dozens of entrants, all vying to have their design turned into a tulip-covered creation for parade day.

“But so far this year we have only had a few. This is the last ever parade and this is a chance for local children to be part of that history.”

Send your designs to Flower Parade Float Competition, Spalding Guardian, Priory House, The Crescent, Spalding PE11 1AB. Please include your age, address and phone number. Entries must be with us by December 28.
