Wednesday: Nearly 500 people turned out in the parish poll in Sutton Bridge yesterday to deliver an overwhelming “no” vote to the biomass power station planned for Wingland.
Some 470 people – or 94 per cent – voted “no” to the question: “Do you want a gasifier on Wingland site?”
There were 28 “yes” votes.
The turnout was 14.2 per cent of a potential electorate of 3,510.
Brian Collins-McDougall, the proposer of the poll, said: “The people of Sutton Bridge have sent a clear message to EnergyPark Sutton Bridge. We do not want your gasifier here.”
Craig Jackson, chairman of Bridge Against The Incinerator (BATI), said it was a good result and more than 400 people had also signed a petition against the proposal.
