Holbeach residents waited in vain for a webcast of important planning committee debates that should have been aired live on Tuesday, but the committee chairman later confessed “we forgot to switch it on”.
Holbeach district councillor Francis Biggadike was among the many sitting in front of screens at 6.30pm.
He said: “I – like most - by 7pm gave up.”
Coun Biggadike asked the full council on Wedneday if webcast equipment could be tested five minutes before the start of each meeting and members made aware to save what he called “a Gordon Brown incident”.
Portfolio holder Coun Gary Taylor said: “We are investigating this and will be able to ensure that in future all equipment will be in full working order for further webcasts.”
But then planning chairman Coun Roger Gambba-Jones revealed the reason for the blank screens.
He said: “We forgot to switch it on, simple as that. There’s a switch in the cupboard marked ‘on’ and ‘off’ and we forgot to put it in the ‘on’ position.”
