Allegations against suspended Lincolnshire Police Chief Constable Neil Rhodes are to be investigated by the man elected to hold the force to account after a new development today.

Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Alan Hardwick has promised a “rigorous local investigation” into “potential conduct matters” against Mr Rhodes after the force’s national disciplinary body said the allegations didn’t involve “serious corruption or misconduct.”

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) were asked by Mr Hardwick to examine evidence concerning Mr Rhodes but have today decided not to launch a formal investigation.

In a statement, an IPCC spokeswoman said: “We are satisfied the matter requires investigation but does not amount to serious corruption or misconduct which would merit an IPCC investigation.

“The decision to return this matter for local investigation has been communicated to the Lincolnshire PCC and it will now be for him to determine the way forward.”

A response to the statement from Mr Hardwick said: “I welcome the determination made by the IPCC and I will be conducting my own independent and rigorous local investigation into the potential conduct matters that were raised.”
