Foreign parents in South Holland are being encouraged to attend an event to find out more about what’s on offer to their children.
The Connecting Communities event on April 19 has been organised by the EU Integration Centre, set up by Poland-born Diana Gajek, with the support of Lincolnshire County Council’s Ethnic Minority and Traveller Education Team.
One of the focuses of the event will be “supplementary schools”, such as the Saturday morning Polish school Diana runs in Spalding.
The sessions offer foreign children the opportunity to learn about the history, traditions and cultures of their native country, as well as study literacy, numeracy and ICT.
Phil Lewis, who is involved with organising the event, said: “The Connecting Communities event will be an opportunity for people to learn more about supplementary education and support the current schools in the area, or perhaps even set up their own school.”
The event also hopes to bring together local sporting, drama, musical local history and culture clubs and societies to show what is on offer in South Holland.
Mr Lewis said: “The aim is to encourage greater participation and encourage people to get involved in their local community.
Connecting Communities will take place at Springfields Events Centre, Spalding, starting at 6pm.
