Magistrates added another ten hours to a man’s unpaid work order after hearing he failed to attend work sessions without reasonable excuse.

Fernando Carvalho (40), of Royce Road, Spalding, was given a suspended prison sentence of 18 weeks with 200 hours’ community service when he appeared in court in January for driving while disqualified.

He was back in court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to failing to attend unpaid work on February 27 and March 1. The court heard Carvalho had already completed more than 93 hours of the order.

Chris Payne, for the probation service, told the court that unemployed people are normally required to work four days a week, but Carvalho told a supervisor he would work no more than three.

Solicitor Rachel Stevens, said Carvalho was looking for a job and doing community service four days a week would interfere with his ability to gain employment.
