Dogs really can have their day now a new business in Gedney Hill has started baking special pet birthday cakes.

Rio Sopp (22) set up Old Macdonald’s Pet Bakery after struggling to find a suitable birthday treat for her horse.

She said: “I decided to make one myself and found a recipe for a yummy equine meadow cake.”

Word soon got around and orders started rolling in for personalised birthday cakes for dogs, doggy cookie platters and Easter hampers for pets.

Cakes look like the real thing and Rio says she uses several recipes, but all with pet-friendly ingredients.

Rio said: “Essentially it is a carrot cake with a few extra types of fruit to add some flavour and natural sugar and other animal-friendly ingredients.

“Any chocolate that is used to decorate products is 100 per cent dog-friendly and I always have my long list of things that are poisonous to animals close by to ensure every item is safe.

“I have tried the horse cake, dog cake and dog muffins, which were fine for humans, too - just not as sweet as ours.

“However, I let my fussy Great Dane named Shi taste the chicken and cheese cookies and she loved them, so they must taste nice.”

To place orders, search Old Macdonald’s Pet Bakery on Facebook, email riosopp@hotmail.co.uk or call 07545498905.
