Thomas Edwards boasts he married “the prettiest girl in the village” – the late Audrey May.
Audrey lived in Gedney Drove End and the couple met when Thomas was transferred to Holbeach Bombing Range with the RAF’s Fire and Rescue Service.
They were married for 47 years and had four sons and a daughter, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
When Thomas came out of the RAF he worked as a long-distance lorry driver, working for a variety of companies as well as a drivers’ agency. Audrey spent time as a school dinner lady in the village.
Thomas carried on working until last year, although he retired first at 65 but found he was “climbing up the wall”, so returned to work.
Thomas is a member of Sutton Bridge branch of the Royal British Legion, where he is a case worker, and he is regional treasurer.
He appealed for more people to join the Royal British Legion.
