Each individual’s cancer experience is different and constantly evolving, according to Amanda Fry, a cancer information support specialist.
Amanda said: “We are concentrating on reducing people’s risk of developing cancer and developing awareness of the signs of cancer, but we are here to answer questions all the way through the cancer journey, while they are being treated and longer term into survival. At the moment we have 2m people in the UK who are living with or beyond a cancer diagnosis.”
One of them is Mark Underwood, of Spalding, who was on the bus as a volunteer. He was diagnosed in 2004 with an incurable cancer and he too found Macmillan enormously helpful, particularly in the early stages.
He said: “The biggest advice I can give is, if you suspect something is wrong consult a doctor as soon as possible. A major part of the problem in terms of cancer figures is people aren’t presenting themselves early enough.”
