Volunteers are needed to help a Crowland group make new memories while its members reminisce about old ones.

The Crowland Cares Reminiscences group was formed to help keep the minds of older members of the community, who may spend long periods alone, active.

Volunteer Anita Hansford said: “The group was started by a mental health nurse who knew how important it was to stay stimulated.

“People left on their own are not - and if you don’t use it you lose it.”

Meetings are held on Mondays from 9.45am to 12.30pm and there are between 10 and 15 members each week.

The morning starts with armchair exercises, followed by activities such as quizzes and general discussions.

Cost of a session is £2 plus £2.50 if members wish to stay for lunch. All proceeds go into a pot to pay for excursions during the year.

If you would like to volunteer at the session, call Crowland Cares on 01733 211797 or pop in to see them at the library in Hall Street.

l A Crowland voluntary group has launched a 100 Club to help raise funds to carry on helping those it cares for.

So far more than 80 tickets have been sold and Crowland Cares hopes it will be a sell-out when the draw takes place on May 8 at noon in the library.

Tickets cost £12 for the year and are on sale at the library and there will be 24 chances of winning a prize.

David Ringham, one of the volunteers, said: “We try to think of new ways of raising money and so far this looks like it will be successful.”

For more details call 01733 211797 or pop in to the library.
